From The Greensborough Patriot

From The Greensborough Patriot

July 31, 1862 – Pg. 3

Partisan Rangers!—I have been recruiting for a Partisan Ranger Company under special direction of Maj. White, who was commissioned by the Secretary of War, by the special recommendation of Gen. “Stonewall” Jackson, and as a misunderstanding seems to pervade the minds of some people in regard to the matter, I wish to set them right upon the subject.  It is the impression among some people that it is illegal to join my Company at this time.  From special instructions just received from Major White, who is new in Richmond, and who has submitted the matter to the Secretary of War, I am induced to yet solicit enlistment in my Company.—The Secretary of War is yet to act on the matter, and I believe from the tenor of Maj. White’s letter to me that the decision of the Secretary will be in favor of enlistments in Partisan Companies at this time.

I have been in the service of the Confederate States from the commencement of the war, and as a member of the Twenty-second Regiment, I am proud to claim a small share of the glory won by that gallant band of heroes.  But I am in the field for still more effective operations.  The “Partisan” offers the strongest inducements of any other arm of the service.—Will our patriotic men longer __ joining when every inducement is offered for them to serve their country with credit to it and distinction to themselves?  The usual bounty will be paid to all who enlist and besides, the members of Partisan Companies get full value of all arms, stores, &c., captured from the enemy.  Those wishing to join may apply in my absence to J. & F. Garrett, or to Dr. B. L. Cole, at his office first door above W. D. Trotter & Co.  Those who have already joined, are hereby notified to appear in Greensboro on Saturday next, the 2nd of August, when we expect to organize with the full number.

W. H. FAUCETT.
